Kel-Met KM1001 Chain handcuffs - Handfängsel för Ordningsvakt, Väktare och Poliser

Kel-Met chain handcuffs are personal protective equipment used mainly by law enforcement agencies such as the Police or Border Guard, as well as in intervention situations. They are used when it is necessary to restrain a person in a way that ensures the safety of both the officer and the detained individual. They are commonly used during transport or securing of detainees. These handcuffs feature wide wrist openings, which respond to the needs reported by Polish uniformed services.

Stainless steel construction

The product is made entirely of stainless steel compliant with PN-EN 10088-1. The material is non-toxic to the body, resistant to mechanical damage, and does not cause allergic reactions. The handcuffs contain no galvanic coatings such as nickel or zinc, meeting the requirements of EU Directive 76/769/EEC-94/27/EEC concerning products in contact with the skin, and planned national regulations.

Structure and operation mechanism

The set consists of two wrist cuffs connected by a chainmail-type chain, attached with rotating joints. The cuff design reduces the risk of abrasions and injuries during proper use.

The cuffs are made of steel and equipped with a double-locking mechanism and a movable ratchet arm. Each cuff has a ratchet lock that can be activated at any point to prevent over-tightening. Protection against accidental opening is activated with a pin located on the key. Pressing the pin engages the lock, and turning the key releases it.

Strength requirements

The handcuffs withstand the following static force applications:

  • breaking force of 2300 N – force applied in the plane of the cuff, with the other cuff fixed. After the force is removed, the handcuffs retain their functionality.
  • bending force of 500 N – force applied to bend the cuff perpendicularly at the opposite end of the chain attachment. No permanent deformation occurs.
  • Standards and certifications

Kel-Met handcuffs meet the following standards:

    • PN-EN 10088-1 – standard for stainless steel properties, defining chemical composition and mechanical characteristics.
    • 76/769/EEC-94/27/EEC – EU directive limiting the use of heavy metals, including nickel, in products that come into contact with the skin. The handcuffs have no galvanic coatings like nickel or zinc.
    • KGP Standard – compliant with the requirements of the Polish National Police Headquarters regarding handcuff construction, safety, and functionality.
